Strategic Planning Workshop Conducted to Redefine Center's Directions

Where are we now?
Where do we want to do?
How do we get there?

These were the basic questions posed to the director, research fellows and staff of the Social Development Research Center as they gathered to discuss a strategic plan for the future of the Center last May 7-9, 2015 in Baguio City. Facilitated by Dr. Benito Teehankee, Associate Professor of the Management and Organization Department of the Ramon V. del Rosario College of Business at DLSU, the strategic planning workshop reviewed the Center’s current mission, vision, and mandate, resulting in revised mission and vision statements that stemmed from discussions on the earlier three basic questions. Participants also divided into smaller groups to think of critical strategic initiatives in the areas of culture and values, capabilities, structures, policies, and programs.

Among the major tasks that the group foresaw needed to be carried out were to assess the Center’s current programs and research tasks; to identify emergent research topics for collaboration; to find researches that impact on policy development; to target advocacies/issues promoting a better quality of life; and to secure funding for further activities that can be conducted from completed research projects.

To help members of the Center in pursuing these plans, Dr. Teehankee led the group through an example of the Flying Logic approach, and constructed an initial flowchart of tasks that need to be conducted.  The group will subsequently be meeting in smaller clusters to bring the plans to completion.

The SDRC Strategic Planning Workshop was attended by Chancellor Emeritus Dr. Carmelita Quebengco; former SDRC Directors Dr. Jesusa Marco, Dr. Rhoderick Nuncio, and Dr. Melvin Jabar; research fellows and associates Dr. Antonio Contreras, Dr. Marlon Era, Ms. Ma. Angeles Lapeña, Mr. Gerardo Mariano, and Ms. Liberty Nolasco; University Research Program and Events Coordinator Ms. Nelly Ann Cruz; and SDRC Director Dr. Maria Caridad Tarroja and members of the research staff.
