Study on the Political Economy of the Use of Knowledge and Research Evidence to be Conducted by SDRC

The Overseas Development Institute, through the Research for Policy Change in Southeast Asia and the Pacific grant of the Australian Government Overseas Aid Program, has provided support to the Social Development Research Center for a study to be conducted in the Philippines on the "Political Economy of the Use of Knowledge and Research Evidence in Urban Resilience Interventions in the Philippines." The project is being headed by team leader Dr. Antonio P. Contreras with research associates Dr. Roberto E. Javier, Jr., Dr. Dennis S. Erasga, Dr. Ma. Teresa G. De Guzman, Mr. Marlon D. Era and Dr. Melvin A. Jabar.

The study will be among the country case studies, also to be conducted in Cambodia and Vietnam, on the knowledge-policy interface in policy development. The studies are intended to strengthen participation and membership in the Evidence Based Policy in Development Network ( in Southeast Asia, through innovative pieces of research implemented in close collaboration with local research institutes/government institutions.

The Philippine study seeks to identify and document the factors that favor or hinder the use of knowledge and research evidence in the design and implementation of the urban resilience measures in selected areas of the country.
