Center Welcomes New Research Associate

Melvin A. Jabar, a doctoral candidate in Asia Pacific Studies of the Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in Japan, has joined SDRC beginning November 24, 2011 as research associate for an incoming project to be sponsored by an international funding agency.

Previously, he assisted in three projects at SDRC: “Impacts of Decentralization on Drug Procurement” funded by the World Health Organization; “Assessment and Institutionalization of the Client Feedback Monitoring System of the Philippine Bureau of Food and Drugs” funded by BFAD; and “Urban Poverty Research”, an internally-funded study. He has also been a lecturer with the Department of International Studies/Political Science, and a research assistant with the Research Institute for Mindanao Culture, both at Xavier University in Cagayan de Oro.

Mr. Jabar’s most recent publications include contributions to the Asia-Pacific Education Researcher (“Educational Challenges of a Japanese-Filipino Child in a Japanese Classroom”); International Journal of Social Sciences and Humanity Studies (“How do Japanese schools promote parental involvement?”); and International Journal of Arts and Sciences (“Parental Involvement as a Form of Social Capital in a Japanese Elementary School”). His dissertation at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, under the auspices of the MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology) Scholarship, is entitled “Educational Outcomes and Experiences of Children of Japanese-Filipino Marriages.”
